Tribute To Boe Oddisey

Boe Oddisey....what can I say but that you are the essence of sunshine. I honor you in this post for your wonderful contribution to the Seattle community and all the happiness your spread each year at Folklife and other such festivals.

Boe's Bio:
BOE ODDISEY is a Vegan Wiccan Practitioner, head of the Silver Fox Coven in Seattle, Washington, and Ordained Minister of the Universal Life Church.

I found this amazing photo of Boe on the SLOG and it was amazing to read the comments people left below it! Here are some examples:

- If any seattle fixture is screaming to be the subject of a documentary it's this guy. he needs a wikipedia page or something.

-This guy walks the neighborhood, with one of those 3-foot gripper grabber things, picking up garbage. He's out there a lot, apparently without any need for praise, picking up your garbage. How many of you are so worried about your expensive hipster shoes you wouldn't even step on garbage, much less pick it up? Old gay hippy man rules!

-Bo carried a 7 foot peace sign at every rally or march in the city for a decade ... before the scarfs. He has long liked a sorta of trans garb, dresses, beads, and so forth.

His long time partner died about two years ago. There was an obit in SGN. Forget his name, but they sued Puyallup fair and WON. The Fair had ejected them in the late 90ies becausue they were wearing leather chaps and jock which showed some butt.

They not only won, but collected some money.

Go, Bo and long life. And just always, always do your thing.

Peace to all, in short supply right now.

The Desktop Wallpaper Project

It's been a long time since I've felt such satisfaction from something online... How many hours in my early computer years, upon learning about "wallpaper", did I search and search for something that didnt look like this:

I know.......sooooo bad but I swear this used to be all there was out there for a computer geek's daughter! Just like that stupid dizzy maze screen saver...anyone remember all this?

Oh those were the good ol' days. But those days are WAY over and those searches WAY easier because of The Desktop Wallpaper Project

Every Wednesday morning a new desktop wallpaper will be released on the site created by wonderful urban artists. Aren't you so happy now?

Oh and this is the one I currently use as my wallpaper...looks a bit like those pop surrealist artists I love so much right? With the natural wood grain?

Actress Timeline: Anna Karina

What can I say about Anna Karina? She was a very VERY beautiful woman...

A Woman Is A Woman (1961)

Band of Outsiders (1964)

Pierrot Le Fou (1965)

Actor Timeline: Romain Duris

I am going to do this very quickly because it's time to sleep BUT I must spread the word about the brilliant Romain Duris who has captured my heart most recently on film. Not in a physical attraction way of course....I imagine he might smell kind of funny for some reason...but he just has such a soulful way with words.

L'Auberge Espanol (2002)

Moliere (2007)- I just bought this film...and a script from the original playwright!

Dans Paris (2007)- I love hearing a song so beautiful in the middle of a film!

Fort Making

This reminds me of when I was young....I was the Queen of Fort Making.....and yes, that's a place...

Fringe Forever

I love fringe....lately I've been noticing it a lot on the runways for Fall '08 and can't help wanting to get off my lazy butt and sew some fringe onto some of my old clothing! Good idea?

Actor Timeline: Ryan Gosling

Alright let me clear this up....Ryan Gosling IS a good actor. He gets such a bad rap because of The Notebook but not many know of all the other brilliant films he's done! All these films have, in my opinion, this beautiful slow dialogue thing going on. It's really amazing to just listen to. I really hope that you all will take my advice and watch them because I love you all and know that you will be so happy you did.

The Believer (2001)

United States of Leland (2004)

Half Nelson (2006)

Lars and the Real Girl (2007)

The Infinate Library

The Infinate Library is a beautiful tribute to altered book making. For those of you who spent hours cutting out images from magazines in high school or maybe you even do now, you will thoroughly enjoy this.

To take something created for one purpose and reconstructing it to form another is really a powerful thing. This really inspired me to collage again....

Etsy Find: WhichGoose

I hadn't been finding much on Etsy lately....until I searched for "faery". I soon came across WhichGoose's beautiful handmade faery crowns! They are perfect for any sort of roleplaying or dressing up and quite cheap too! They mostly range from $20-30! So check them out...

Also...if any of you are planning on going to FaeryWorlds with me this summer you might want to pick one up!

Take A Peek!

Thank you thank you thank you Audrey Kawasaki! In Audrey's latest post she has let us in on the inside world of her sketches. It just gives me such a fresh perspective on her work when I begin to see how her creative processes begin....

Actress Timeline: Bette Davis

Let's even it out with a little lady lovin'. Bette Davis the most seductive, captivating woman ever to appear on screen....

1939- Dark Victory

1942- Now, Voyager

1950- All About Eve

Actor Timeline: Michael Pitt

So...decided to start a series of posts that run through the best movies of a chosen actors career so that you can look them up if you haven't seen them and rent away! There are so many actors that I just see time and time again in amazing films. And the first that comes to mind is Michael Pitt.

2001- Hedwig and the Angry Inch (by the way...my favorite movie of all time)

2004- The Dreamers (watching this films introduced me to a lot of new films)

2005- Last Days

2006- Delirious (finished watching it just 5 minutes ago and that's what inspired this post)

Yoko D'holbachie

I bought the Vol. 6 Hi Fructose magazine a few months ago because there was a spread of Audrey Kawasaki's work inside. Although those 9 pages I had been waiting for were bliss...the true treasure I found inside (well on the outside too because her art was on the cover) was Yoko D'holbachie....."

The eyes of Yoko D'holbachie will send you. Just look at them, up to a half dozen at a time, and see a world not as simple or sweet as it might at first appear--decaying from surface cuteness into complex oddities of tentacle, barnacle and corpuscle. Revealing teeth and wing and toadstool, and a chromatic riot of mythological, biological and psychedelic implications."

TeachStreet

This is amazing! Ever want to learn Glass Blowing? Burlesque? Floral Arrangements? Cat Training? Ping Pong? or Folk Dancing? Go to TeachStreet!

It's like Citysearch except for classes! So easy and so fun to discover that there is a class for almost anything!

What's Funnier?

What's funnier? The cat that won't come inside or the owner who thinks her cat is "cheeky"?

Oh and by the way...I get all of my cat videos from Stuff On My Cat

Yoani Sanchez

This morning I got my highly anticipated TIME magazine in the mail. It is the 5th year anniversary of the TIME 100, a list of the most influential people in the world today.

I felt a little guilty when I found that I didn't know half of the people listed. But as I read I came across Yoani Sanchez, whose blog Generation Y is written daily from Internet cafes as Yoani poses as a tourist to keep herself out of trouble with the Cuban authorities. TIME calls her blog "fiesty" and "dedicated to the truth". Something greatly lacking in Cuba today.

It just makes me realize how much I take "freedom of speech" for granted. I hope you all check out her blog. Cuba isn't necessary on most people's minds these days with all Hilary vs. Obama drama and such. But it should be.

Mucha Mania

For those of you who don't know...THIS is Mucha (a famous art nouveau illustrator of the 1920's)
I've recently been finding a few modern artists who have been taking great inspiration from his works and I find it so amazing! I'm kind of mad at myself though for not cataloguing all my finds, therefore I only have a few to show for now...sorry!

Brandi Milne whose Gelaskins piece I have decorating my laptop!

Etsy's Emily Balivet- this print is only $23!

Dogatonic

I will NEVER get tired of this clip.....poor dog...

Glow-In-The-Dark Cats!

Wow.......who knew that someday my children will be able to sleep with a little, cuddly night light at the end of their bed!
That's right! FINALLY Glow-In-Dark Cats exist!

Attention All Creative Peoples!

Magic

This looks like magic to me....does it to you?

Froud

Brian Froud, in case you didn't know, is the artist who designed the magical world of both The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. I'm guessing you've happened upon books of his about faeries or goblins and such in misc. bookshops.

But there are those out there who call themselves "Froudians" those who are most likely believe in faeries or who are just plain fantasy nerds. Point is...someone got this awesome tattoo of his work from the book Good Faeries Bad Faeries! Amazing...but kinda scary?

And speaking of replicated artist tattoos.....here's Audrey Kawasaki piece!

Mister Lonely

Seriously who doesn't love Diego Luna??
