Mucha Tattoos
The brilliant and often copied artist Mucha (1860-1939) is apparently a very popular tattoo inspiration. I would love to get a Mucha tattoo for myself but I promised my parents I wouldn't get anymore for awhile...bummer.
But if you're in the market for a tattoo I would definitely look below for some great ideas!
Here are some previous posts of mine that have more Mucha pictures and tattoos if you'd like to get more inspirational ideas:

Pin-Up Art of Dan DeCarlo
One of my roommates recently got an amazing job with Fantagraphics and this week she brought home this book called The Pin-up Art of Dan DeCarlo.
Dan DeCarlo was the artist behind the wonderful Archie Comics, including Sabrina, Josie and the Pussycats, Cheryl Blossom, and Betty & Veronica. When I was younger I actually had an Archie Comic collection! I honestly have read I'd say 70% of DeCarlo's comics, which is a lot when you think about how many there are.
Well NOW I find out that he started out drawing pin-up comics in the early 50's! Shocking! Although now that I think about it there were some pretty sexy characters in those comics...especially Betty & Veronica.
Lisa Dahl: Home Sweet Home
This paintings by Lisa Dahl are painted with acrylic over bed sheets and a little touch of embroidery. Her composition is just beautiful and I love the arts and crafts sort of feel. Perfectly simple and homey.

Peanut Butter Recall
**IMPORTANT**
Make sure to check out this list if you live in the U.S. of the all peanut butter products that are being recalled because of salmonella outbreak! There have already been a few deaths and over 500 people who got sick. Some Trader Joe's products and my Luna bars had to be thrown away :(
The Can Can Castaways
In celebration of my beautiful friend Julie's 22nd birthday, a bunch of us got tickets to Cabaresque part of the Aerobotron series at the Can Can last night! It's hard to describe how wonderfully unique the experience was but I highly recommend it. It wasn't a typical burlesque show, but instead it was a series of comical little skits filled with acrobatics, cross dressing, dancing, and funky costumes. The music was a mix of Russian, Techno, and Alternative and I wish I could find a music set list because it was perfect!
Plus, real Absinthe is apparently legal now and the huge variety of Absinthe cocktails they served just added to the mysteriously seductive and intimate atmosphere, although I still stuck to champagne.
Check out the Can Can Castaways (the performers from last night) and see videos and more pics.
I ended up finding a few songs from the set list:
Daft Punk - "Technologic"
Electric Light Orchestra- "Yours Truly 2095"
Of Montreal- "Oslo in the Summertime"
Electric Six- "High Voltage"
Gogol Bordello- "Start Wearing Purple"
M.I.A.- "World Town"

You Either Love 'Em Or Hate 'Em: The Olsen Twins
Alright so I have a not so guilty love of the Olsen twins...
Their style is so striking and I can't get enough. If you're like me you need to visit Olsen Anonymous. A respectable site dedicated to fashion sense not celebrity gossip.
My First Dressform
I'm so excited because I ordered my first dress form from Joann's! It's a Dritz "My Double" which is great because I can alter it to fit my own measurements. Yay! Now I can alter and make my own clothing without having to use those stupid patterns I loath so much bleh.

Hedgehogs Are So Weird...
...but oh so cute at the same time...
Tie-Dye Tango
Oh goodness I want this dress from 80's Purple soooo badly! It would be a great DIY project except for the fact that it will be impossible to find a plain tank top that long....let me know if you have any ideas for where I could find out!
This would be PERFECT for the Folklife and Bumbershoot festivals here in Seattle this summer!!

Actress Timeline: Claudette Colbert
I just watch the 1939 film Midnight today and I loved it so much I just had to pass on the good word. The plot is one we've seen a million times before but somehow coming Midnight makes it seem so new!
A young woman left with nothing but the gorgeous evening gown on her back, attempts to make it in Paris with nothing but her wit and good looks. After sneaking into a glamourous party, she meets a wealthy benefactor who hires her to seduce his wives lover away by pretending she is the Baroness Czerny! That same night she finds herself set up at the Ritz with 50,000 francs to her name, a whole new beyond belief amazing wardrobe, and two men vying for her attention.
There's so much more to it of course but I don't want to spoil it for you! Anyways, Claudette Colbert makes it worth seeing either way. Here are a few of my favorite Claudette films for you to check out. Enjoi.
The Egg And I (1947)
Midnight (1939)
Cleopatra (1934)
It Happened One Night (1934)

Derinkuyu: A Mysterious Underground World
Buried deep in the Cappadocia region of Turkey, an underground labyrinth-like city called Derinkuyu exists.
"No one knows how many underground cities lie beneath Cappadocia. Eight have been discovered, and many smaller villages, but there are doubtless more. The biggest, Derinkuyu, wasn’t discovered until 1965, when a resident cleaning the back wall of his cave house broke through a wall and discovered behind it a room that he’d never seen, which led to still another, and another. Eventually, spelunking archeologists found a maze of connecting chambers that descended at least 18 stories and 280 feet beneath the surface, ample enough to hold 30,000 people – and much remains to be excavated. One tunnel, wide enough for three people walking abreast, connects to another underground town six miles away. Other passages suggest that at one time all of Cappadocia, above and below the ground, was linked by a hidden network."
Can you imagine walking around in this place? Or living there? I'm guessing it would be a mixture of claustrophobia and awe but I would love to visit it for myself. Cappadocia is also know for its "fairy chimneys" so I have TWO reasons to visit. Anyone care to join me?
